Last year, Three Days Grace released their seventh studio effort, Explosions. The critically-acclaimed album was met with high-acclaim from fans and critics, with some writers describing the effort as “a continuation of the gritty, aggressive rock that has been the group's hallmark since the beginning.” Explosions spawned several notable hits, including two number 1 Billboard Mainstream Rock singles, “So Called Life” and “Lifetime.” Three Days Grace’s exemplary work with the album also earned them a Juno Award nomination for Rock Album of the Year.
Since their breakout hit, “I Hate Everything About You,” was released in 2003, Three Days Grace has consistently charted on the Canadian rock charts and on the U.S. Billboard’s Mainstream Rock category. The debut single went to number 1 in Canada and broke into the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 55. The song, which peaked at numbers 2 and 4 on the Adult Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock charts, became officially one of the band’s biggest hits, earning a double platinum status in the U.S.
For the next two decades, the band consistently released hit singles, many of which hit number 1 on the charts. As of last year, Three Days Grace has tied with the popular rock band Shinedown in most numbers 1 on the chart – both bands broke the record held by Van Halen.
Meanwhile, fellow chart-topping hard rock icon Chevelle also has a string of number 1 rock songs. In 2021, the band released their first concept album, NIRATIAS, which stands for Nothing is Real and This is a Simulation. The effort, which comprised mostly spoken word and instrumental tracks, spawned the band’s latest hit to reach number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart. “Self Destructor” is the band’s sixth single to top the chart.
Since the release of their debut single, “Point #1” in 1999, Chevell has consistently charted in several Billboard categories. The band also have a couple of release breaking into the Billboard Hot 100, with their 2002 hit, “The Red,” peaking at number 56. The double-platinum certified song, spawned by their sophomore album Wonder What’s Next, remains, to this day, Chevelle’s biggest hit.
