Formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999, Kings Of Leon have gone through many shifts in their musical style. In the early stages of their career they were influenced by blues and Southern rock, but over time they have grown to include a variety of genres in their repertoire, eventually leaning towards stadium-style rock. They've swooped up one award after another, including two BRIT awards and 12 Grammy nominations with 4 wins. They've achieved widespread popularity, with initial success in the UK with 9 Top 40 singles and 3 of their albums hitting the top 5 charts, going on to chart in the US with four singles from their release “Only By The Night” in 2008.
WALLS (We Are Like Love Songs) is their seventh album, released to critical acclaim and debuting at number one in the US, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. The work of their latest producer Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire and Florence and The Machine) is evident, as are stylistic changes in the band's sound. The album has a distinct 80's vibe, with certain changes to the bassline and overall pace, as well as a more sober delivery from Caleb Followill – appropriately, given that he had to cancel a tour in 2011 in order to go into rehab. The song “Over,” is inspired by these times, and the singer has reflected on the personal nature of the album, stating; “There are a lot of personal stories on this album… We’re still hungry and still young at heart.”
